Customer Rating: Summary: A handy but not in-depth guide book Comment: As far as information on the Gambia goes, there isn't much to choose from. Most books focus on the sites and few tell you what you will need to know to survive out there. This one has a detailed list of what to take, what to wear and what medical supplies you will need. The eating out guide is a little thin, and alot of the places have changed greatly in the years since it was written, but it can still be used as a starter. The only place the book really falls down is that it tends to skirt the more unpleasant aspects of being a rich and conspicious tourist (by their standards any tourist is rich). Alot more information on 'bumsters', the local con-men who swarm the streets and use any ploy to get you to give them money, would have made this book a five star rating. However, that said, it proved interesting to read with lots of local tid-bits of information. Do read it BEFORE going.
